Blood bank donations are down during this time of sheltering in place, but the need for blood remains.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in a statement that blood centers across the country have an urgent need for donations.

The CDC encourages people who are well to continue to donate blood if they are able, even if they are practicing social distancing because of COVID-19.,” the statement says. Further, “CDC is supporting blood centers by providing recommendations that will keep donors and staff safe. Examples of these recommendations include spacing donor chairs 6 feet apart, thoroughly adhering to environmental cleaning practices, and encouraging donors to make donation appointments ahead of time.”

Blood banks are considered a critical service, which allows them to stay open. To keep people safe, donors must make an appointment to give blood. Appointments are also staggered to ensure not too many people are together at once.

We highly encourage anyone in our community to support this worthy cause by donating!
