With spring on the horizon, and summer approaching just as quickly, now may be the time that you may want to start tackling home improvements or outdoor enhancements to your home. With this in mind, you want to ensure you follow the proper avenues to have any improvements approved.

As a board member, you are readily involved in the process, but below are some helpful reminders for your homeowners:

Types of Improvements

After you have decided what you want to change with your property. For example, you may want to build a new deck for the backyard or pool, or perhaps simply repaint the entire exterior. Whatever the change, be sure it is allowed in your community.

CC&Rs

Become familiar with your CC&Rs so that you can have an understanding of what rules are in place in your community, that way you have an idea of what may or may not be allowed.

When in Doubt

If you are unsure if any additions, changes, or improvements you wish to make are allowed, contact your association first. When in doubt, better to be safe and ask beforehand, to avoid any time spent submitting a request, only for it to be denied.

Violations

It is best not to complete maintenance, have additions built, or changes made to your property without first submitting the proper ACC request. This can prevent your house being in violation, and from being assessed fines, which nobody needs in their life! Improvements and changes to your home should enhance your property, while being in line with the community’s overall appearance.
